HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS
City and Southern Sections continue legacy of excellence

High school sports has been a popular fixture in Southern California for more than 100 years. In California, competitions are held under the jurisdiction of the California Interscholastic Federation, chartered in 1915.

In the Los Angeles area, the CIF has two "sections," the Los Angeles City Section (essentially schools which are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District) and the Southern Section, which is virtually every other school in the southern part of the state excepting the San Diego Section schools.

Championships are held in the league, section (City and Southern) level and in a few sports on the State level: basketball, cross country, track & field, girls' volleyball and wrestling and regional championships (northern and southern) in golf and tennis.
