UCLA Wins Fifth Straight NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship
The UCLA women’s water polo squad captured its fifth consecutive NCAA championship, defeating USC, 5-4, to win the 104th NCAA team title in school history. The Bruins were seeded No. 3 entering the tournament but defeated Michigan and No. 2 Stanford to reach the championship match, at College Park, MD (May 10).
Meb Keflezighi Wins New York City Marathon
UCLA alumnus Meb Keflezighi, who won four NCAA distance titles during his illustrious career, captured the New York City Marathon. A Silver medalist in the 2004 Olympics, Keflezighi became the first American man since 1982 to win this famous race (November 1).
UCLA Women’s Soccer Team Advances To Seventh Consecutive College Cup
The UCLA women’s soccer team engineered a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over No. 2 Portland at Drake Stadium. The win enabled the Bruins to advance to the College Cup, soccer’s version of the Final Four, for the seventh straight season (November 28).
