Kobe’s 61 Points Breaks Garden Record
Kobe Bryant scored a Madison Square Garden record 61 points in the Lakers’ 126-117 win over the New York Knicks. It was the most points scored by anyone in the NBA in all of 2009 (February 2).
65 Wins for the Lakers
With a 125-112 home victory over the Utah Jazz, the Lakers won their 65th game of the season, closing out the regular season by tying for the 3rd best record in team history, 65-17 (April 14).

Lakers Win NBA Championship
The Lakers won their 15th NBA championship, defeating the Orlando Magic 4 games to 1 in the Finals, including a clinching 99-86 victory in game 5, at Orlando. Phil Jackson won his 10th title as an NBA head coach, surpassing Red Auerbach’s 9 for the most in NBA history (June 14).
