Ducks upset #1 Seed San Jose in Playoffs
By defeating the Sharks, 4-1, at home to close out their Western Conference Quarterfinal series in six games, the Ducks became the fifth team to upset the NHL’s best regular season team (by standings points) in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs since the Expansion Era began (1967-68 season). The club was also the eighth #8 seed to upset a #1 seed in the first round since 1993-94 (first year of current playoff format) (April 27).
Marchant’s Goal Beats Red Wings in Triple OT
Center Todd Marchant scored in the third overtime period to even the Conference Semifinal series against Detroit at a game apiece. Goaltender Jonas Hiller stopped 59-of-62 shots as Anaheim won its fifth straight overtime game against the Red Wings, 4-3 (May 3).
Ducks Clinch Playoff Berth for Fourth Straight Year
By defeating Dallas in a shootout at the Honda Center, 4-3, the Ducks qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fourth consecutive year, reaching the 90-point mark for the fourth straight season and the fifth time in club history (42-33-7 final mark). After 69 games, the Ducks were 12th in the Western Conference standings, then rallied to make the playoffs by posting the best record in the NHL (by points and winning percentage) over the last 13 games, going 10-2-1 (April 10).
