UCLA Women Capture First NCAA Title
Senior Riza Zalameda rallied from a set down to defeat rival Susie Babos of Cal, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, clinching the first-ever NCAA Championship for the UCLA women's tennis team. Under Bruin head coach Stella Sampras Webster the Bruins posted a 4-0 victory over the Golden Bears in the NCAA Final and Zalameda was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player (May 20).

Williams Sisters Win Olympic Gold
At the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing, Serena and Venus Williams captured the women’s doubles gold medal with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain. It is their second Olympic doubles title (Sydney 2000) (August 17).
Vandeweghe Wins Junior U.S. Open
16-year-old Coco Vandeweghe became the first American to win the US Open Girls' Grand Slam singles title since 1995, defeating Venezuela's Gabriela Paz Franco 7-6, 6-1. She is the first ever to win the tournament as a wild-card entrant, at New York (September 7).
