In the waning seconds against the Indiana Fever, Sparks forward Candace Parker put down the second dunk in WNBA history and first of her career, following up with a repeat performance two days later against the Seattle Storm. Both games were at Staples Center (June 22 and 24). |

Leslie named Defensive Player of the Year
After being out for the 2007 season Lisa Leslie came back in 2008 to win the second WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award of her career. Leslie led the WNBA in total blocks with 97 and blocks per game at 2.94 (September 19). |

Parker makes history with MVP and Rookie of the Year Awards
Sparks #1 draft pick Candace Parker became the first player in WNBA history to win the league’s Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awards in the same year. She led all rookies in five statistical categories, led the WNBA in rebounding, and finished in the top five in several other categories (October 5). |
