Spies Wins Closest AMA Superbike Finish
In the closest Superbike race in Auto Club Speedway history, Ben Spies edged teammate Mat Mladin at the finish line by .011 seconds for his second straight win in the American Motorcycle Association Suzuki Superbike Championship. The win was the sixth of Spies' career at the Auto Club Speedway as the Suzuki team took all three spots on the podium for the second straight day (April 27).
New Era Dawns at Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach
The Grand Prix Association of Long Beach announced that in April, 2009 the Indy Racing League, an 18-race series that includes the Indy 500, will make its debut on the legendary seaside circuit. North America’s premier open-wheel racing series, the IndyCar series includes such drivers as Scott Dixon, Danica Patrick, Dario Franchitti and Marco Andretti (May 22).

Johnson Continues Dominance at Auto Club Speedway
En route to entering the record books by recording his third straight NASCAR Sprint Cup championship, Southern Californian Jimmie Johnson became the first ever to win both the pole and the Pepsi 500 race at Auto Club Speedway. Johnson, who led a Speedway-record 228 of 250 laps, also became just the second driver to win three Sprint Cup races at ACS and the first since Cale Yarborough ('76-'78) to win three straight series titles (August 31).
