The Lakers acquired Pau Gasol and a future second round draft pick from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, Aaron McKie, draft rights to Marc Gasol, and two future first round picks (February 29).

Kobe Named NBA MVP
Kobe Bryant won the NBA Most Valuable Player award, the first of his career. Bryant became the fourth Laker to be so honored, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson and Shaquille O'Neal (May 6).
Lakers Advance to NBA Finals
Behind Kobe Bryant's 39 points the Lakers overcame a 17-point deficit at Staples Center to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 100-92 and win the Western Conference championship four games to one. They advanced to the NBA Finals for the 29th time in franchise history, 23rd while in Los Angeles and 14th under the ownership of Dr. Jerry Buss (May 29).
