WINNING MOMENT
Beckham Scores from 70 Yards
In a game against the Kansas City Wizards midfielder David Beckham scored one of the top goals in MLS history. Deep into stoppage time the Galaxy were under heavy pressure as K.C. pushed for an equalizer, even sending their goalkeeper into the attacking end. However the Galaxy were able to clear the ball to Beckham who took two dribbles before launching the ball more than 70 yards into the vacant Kansas City goal, giving the Galaxy a 3-1 win at Home Depot Center (May 24).
Donovan Captures Golden Boot
The Galaxy’s MVP, forward Landon Donovan had a career year in 2008, winning the Golden Boot for being Major League Soccer’s top scorer, including a league-best six multi-goal games, two of which were hat tricks. Donovan clinched the scoring title with a goal in the final game of the season, giving him his first 20-goal season in just 25 games for the Galaxy (October 26).

Defender Sean Franklin, the Galaxy’s first round draft pick in 2008, lived up to the hype, appearing in 27 of the Galaxy’s 30 games, playing the second most minutes on the team and collecting one assist. He rounded out his sensational debut season by receiving a call-up to the U.S. National Team, en route to MLS Rookie of the Year honors (November 13).
