HORSE RACING TOP MOMENTS 2007

Lava Man's Record Year
The 6-year-old California-bred gelding became only the third horse in history to win the Santa Anita Handicap back-to-back, joining John Henry (1981-82) and Milwaukee Brew (2002-03), at Santa Anita. Lava Man then proceeded to match the great Native Diver with his third straight Hollywood Gold Cup victory, at Hollywood Park (March 3 and June 30).
Talamo, 17, Rides Two Grade I Stakes Winners on Same Day
Seventeen-year-old apprentice sensation Joseph Talamo was not only granted mounts in major races, he scored a pair of Grade I victories on the same card, guiding Nashoba's Key in the $300,000 Vanity Handicap and Bilo in the $300,000 Triple Bend Handicap, at Hollywood Park (July 7).
WINNING MOMENT
Gomez's Career Year
Jockey Garrett Gomez, coming back from the depths of alcohol and drug addiction just three years ago, finished in a dead-heat with Victor Espinoza as Santa Anita's leading jockey with 83 wins for the 2007/07 winter/spring meeting, then went on to break Jerry Bailey's all-time national yearly stakes win record by booting home his 71st stakes winner of 2007 (November 12).
