Pepperdine Wins NCAA Men's Tennis Championship
Finishing the season 36-2, Pepperdine claimed its first national championship in men's tennis with a thrilling victory over Georgia in the finals at Stanford University. Coach Adam Steinberg was named National Coach of the Year (May 23).
National Tennis Center Named for Billie Jean King
The home of the U.S. Open was dedicated as the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to honor the Southern California-born tennis legend. The renaming ceremony took place on Opening Night of the 2006 U.S. Open (August 28).
Bryan Brothers Finish Year as World's #1 Team
Bob and Mike Bryan won the Stanford ATP Doubles #1 team ranking for the third time in four years, dominating the season by winning the Australian Open and Wimbledon to complete a career Grand Slam. The ATP honor was presented in Shanghai (November 11).
