Cohen Takes Silver at Torino
In the women's figure skating competition at the Winter Olympics, Southern California native Sasha Cohen won the silver medal, her first Olympic medal (February 23).
Korea Sweeps World Baseball Classic's Second Round
In the inaugural World Baseball Classic, Korea swept the tournament's second round at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, beating Mexico, Japan and Team USA before huge crowds. Advancing to the WBC Semifinals, Korea was eliminated by eventual champion Japan, a team they had defeated twice in earlier rounds (March 12 - 15).
Kastor Wins London Marathon
Agoura High School graduate Deena Kastor won the Flora London Marathon in an American record of 2:19:36, becoming the first American woman to break 2:20 and the fourth-fastest time ever recorded (April 23).
