Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman Earns 100th Win to set MLS Record
Galaxy Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, long one of the best ‘keepers in MLS, cemented his place in League history with a 1-0 shutout of Real Salt Lake at The Home Depot Center. Hartman, who holds the League record for career Goals-Against-Average, made only one save against the expansion side, but became the first goalkeeper to record 100 career regular season wins (June 11). |
Galaxy host Real Madrid
Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid visited The Home Depot Center to face off in a friendly against the Galaxy. Arguably the world's most successful club, 'Los Galacticos' boast some of soccer's most recognizable names including David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo (since sold to Inter Milan), Raul, and Michael Owen (since sold to Newcastle-EPL). Real Madrid won 2-0, on goals by Owen and Roberto Soldado, despite a solid effort from the Green and Gold (July 18). |
Galaxy win First Annual Honda Super Clasico Series
The Galaxy welcomed - well, accommodated - then again, perhaps 'tolerated' is the right word - expansion side CD Chivas USA when they established residency next door to the Galaxy in The Home Depot Center in preparation for their inaugural season. The Galaxy dominated the rivalry, winning all five meetings and finishing the season sweep with a dramatic 1-0 victory at the L.A. Coliseum in front of 88,816 fans as part of the 'Doble Clasico' that also featured Mexico's CD Guadalajara and Club América (August 10). |
Galaxy win U.S. Open Cup Championship
The Los Angeles Galaxy captured the third-oldest single-elimination club competition in the world, defeating F.C. Dallas 1-0. The win was made sweeter by the fact that it was the club’s first championship since moving into The Home Depot Center in 2003, and by their being able to lift the trophy in front of their home fans. It was the second U.S. Open Cup title for the Galaxy, who also won the title in 2001 (September 28). |
Galaxy Win MLS Cup 2005 - Winner
The Galaxy completed a remarkable post-season climb from fourth seed in the Western Conference, defeating the New England Revolution 1-0 in overtime to claim their second MLS Cup championship, at Frisco, Texas. Guillermo Ramirez, who had scored only one goal all season, nailed a deflected shot from the top of the penalty box in the 105th minute for the game's only score. In earlier rounds of the playoffs the Galaxy defeated San Jose and Colorado to earn a spot in the final for the fifth time in club history (November 13). |
