By virtue of a dramatic 54-42 victory over the San Jose SaberCats at HP Pavilion on May 7, the Avengers complete a two-game season sweep of the defending ArenaBowl champions. The victory is the team's first versus San Jose on the road. |

SILAS DEMARY SETS NEW ALL-TIME AFL SACK RECORD
Offensive/defensive lineman Silas Demary broke the oldest record in AFL history on May 21, when he brought down Grand Rapids quarterback Michael Bishop for a three-yard loss, giving him 13.5 sacks on the season. The previous record of 13 was set in 1987 by Craig Walls of the Pittsburgh Gladiators. |
KEVIN INGRAM VOTED THE AFL'S "IRONMAN OF THE YEAR"
Wide receiver/defensive back Kevin Ingram earned the AFL's most prestigious individual award on June 9, when he claimed the "U.S. Army Ironman of the Year" trophy at the ArenaBall Awards Show at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. He led the Avengers in receptions (88) and interceptions (six) in 2005. |

After the tragic death of offensive/defensive lineman Al Lucas and an emotional loss at Nashville a week later, the Avengers rebound by playing their best football of the season, beating Chicago, Arizona, San Jose and Las Vegas in a span of 22 days and capturing their first Western Division championship in the process. |
