100 Greatest Moments
Annual Greatest Moments
In 1995, the Sports Council, in conjunction with Towery Publishing, produced "Unforgettable: The 100 Greatest Moments in Los Angeles Sports History." In its 224 pages were the top hundred moments in sports - ranked 1 to 100 - as determined by a poll of more than 5,000 individuals, including Sports Council members, area news media and members of the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

To qualify, a moment had to take place in the greater Los Angeles area or had to involve a person or team from the area.

More than 230 nominations were received, but in the end, the top 100 showcased 16 different sports. Football was the favorite with 25 of the top 100, followed by baseball with 18, basketball with 15, track with 13 and horse racing with four.

Rich Perelman wrote the text for the book with Mark Meyers compiling profiles on 43 corporate sponsors of the work.

A prime-time gala saluting the top ten moments was held on November 12, 1995 on the floor of UCLA's Pauley Pavilion, emceed by legendary Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully. Televised live by Prime Ticket (now Fox Sports West), it brought together many of the personalities who had made these moments so magnificent, including Kirk Gibson, whose 1988 World Series home run ranked as the top moment in L.A. history.

Since 1995, the Sports Council has compiled an annual (unranked) list of the top ten moments of each year. Which of these would make your top 100?
