About Gersten Pavilion
After playing in a small, on-campus gymnasium for decades, LMU opened modern Gersten Pavilion on January 8, 1982. It's now home to the university's men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams and a popular special events venue in Los Angeles.

Named for Albert Gersten, father of LMU graduate and regent Albert Gersten, Jr., the facility was designed by architect John Aleksich and won the "Golden Nugget Award" as the top recreation facility in the 14 western states at the 1983 Pacific Coast Builders Convention. It cost $4.2 million to build, but was an immediate hit and hosted the Olympic weightlifting competition in 1984 and the volleyball and some early sessions of boxing at the 1991 U.S. Olympic Festival.
