Two New Directors Elected to the L.A. Sports Council Board

Renata Simril, the newly installed CEO of the LA84 Foundation, has been elected to the Los Angeles Sports Council’s board of directors for the 2016-17 term.

The LA84 Foundation funds youth sports and coaching education in Southern California, and is a national thought leader on the impact of youth sport and its contributions to positive youth development. The foundation is a legacy of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Also joining the board is Virginia Grebbien, Chief of Staff, Parsons Corporation, one of the world's largest engineering and construction firms.

“These two new directors will greatly enhance this organization’s role of attracting major sporting events to our community,” said Sports Council Chair Karen Brodkin.

The newly elected directors also will serve as directors of the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games.

In related news, board member Tony Sciarrino of Bank of America was named a Vice Chair of the Sports Council.

The Los Angeles Sports Council is a non-profit civic organization whose primary purpose is to promote economic development through sports in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

On behalf of the community, the Sports Council bids against other cities for the right to host major sporting events, often staging or helping to stage events after successful bids.

Founded in 1988, the Sports Council's efforts represent more than $1 billion in overall economic impact for the region and range from NCAA Championships to the Super Bowl, and from the U.S Olympic Trials to the World Cup.

The Council also works in support of each of the area's established sports teams and facilities.
