The Sports Council is a private, non-profit organization which supports economic and community development through the promotion of spectator sports programs in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas, including support of our local teams and the attraction of events to the area.

Locals Will Be Well Represented at All-Star Game

On the heels of a dominant run reminiscent of his heyday in St. Louis, Albert Pujols was chosen for his 10th All-Star Game. The Angels' cleanup hitter was selected as a reserve but will start at first base, replacing the injured Miguel Cabrera and joining teammate Mike Trout in the American League starting lineup.

Pujols leads the AL with 25 home runs. Pujols previously said he'd like to partake in the Home Run Derby one last time -- he's done so three other times -- if picked for the All-Star Game, which will take place at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on Tuesday, July 14.

Trout and Pujols give the Angels two All-Star Game starters for the ninth time in franchise history and the first time since 2003, when Troy Glaus and Garret Anderson made up the same lineup from U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.

Dodgers Zack Greinke, Adrian Gonzalez, Joc Pederson and Yasmani Grandal were added to the National League All-Star team, with Clayton Kershaw a finalist in the 2015 Final Vote.

Greinke and Pederson were elected by the players, while Gonzalez and Grandal were added by San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy, manager of the NL squad.

This is the fifth All-Star appearance for Gonzalez and could be the fifth for Kershaw, who has been on the squad the last four years. It is the third All-Star honor for Greinke and the first for Pederson and Grandal.

Pederson is the first Dodgers rookie All-Star since Hideo Nomo in 1995. The last Dodgers pitcher to start an All-Star Game was Brad Penny in 2006. Bochy's choice will probably come down to Greinke or Washington's Max Scherzer.

The Los Angeles Sports Council is a non-profit civic organization whose primary purpose is to promote economic development through sports in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

On behalf of the community, the Sports Council bids against other cities for the right to host major sporting events, often staging or helping to stage events after successful bids.

Founded in 1988, the Sports Council's efforts represent more than $1 billion in overall economic impact for the region and range from NCAA Championships to the Super Bowl, and from the U.S Olympic Trials to the World Cup.

The Council also works in support of each of the area's established sports teams and facilities.
